DESCRIPTION:\n\n UNFS & NELSHABY AG BUREAU WESTERN CROP WALK AND STICKY BEAK DAY \n\n\n Friday 27th September\n 8.30am\nFree to attend, lunch and dinner supplied\nPlease contact for more details:\n Rachel Trengove 0438 452 003\n Nathan Crouch 0407 634 528\n\n\n The plan for the day:\n8:30am – Board the bus at Byron John’s place – 77 Woodlands Road, NUROM\nVisiting:\n– Dennis’ farm – Baroota – “chasing moisture at depth” – deep sowing (75-80mm) long coleoptile wheat and lentil paddocks with interesting results\n– Sticky beak at Dennis’ workshop\n– Jonno Mudge’s lentils under pivot\n– Crouch and Johns demonstration sites – “De-risking the seeding program: management practices for the success of dry early sown crops” The three variables explored: 1) sowing depth – sowing shallow (15mm) or at optimum depth (25mm), 2) sowing point type and 3) row position (on row and inter row)\n– GRDC’s “Jacks in lentils trial” – Mundoora – Stefan Schmitt\n– Chris Crouch’s soil amelioration for saline soils (sandhill onto saline flats demonstration)\n– Brendon John’s GRDC National Pulse Phenology trials – looking at varietal differences and time of sowing – SARDI\n– Brett Reid’s – DE Engineering Bulldog Plant, with Flinders Hydraulics Remote Control System Engine driven PTO system with hydraulics. Able to power a fully loaded 15” auger with its electro Clutch for easy starting and stopping\n\n\nReturn to Byron’s for dinner & drinks\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to share ideas and experiences, especially with such an unusually dry season this year. The bus trip is very flexible, and any contributions are welcome during the day to discuss or visit as we are travelling around.\n\n\nWe have a great line up of experts and local agronomists joining us for the day including Barry Mudge presenting on GRDC’s RiskWi$e initiative.\n\n
