Burra to Bird Lake – a tour of regenerating grasslands
Visiting grassland and shrubland restoration sites that are creating productive pastures and restoring ecological function
Join the team of Farmers, Ecologists and Agricultural Consultants working to return function and productivity to the Goyder’s Line compacted soils and degraded landscape. Tour four sites from newly sown thorough to established and undergoing long term management. Discussion will include:
•Native vegetation clearance requirements,
•Site preparation,
•Seeding techniques and tools – from readily available to specialist equipment
•Seed selection and sourcing
•Paddock management post seeding and into the long term
Tour Itinerary:
7.30-8.30 Bus from Burra to Hallett
8.30-9.30 Iron Grass grassland pastures at Ulooloo – productive pastures and functional ecosystems.
9.30-10.30 Bus to Peterborough
10.30-11.30 Gumbowie permanent pasture establishment trial. Implementing whole of property land management changes.
11.30-1 Bus to Quorn with a packed lunch pick-up and toilet stop at Orroroo
1-2 Regenerating Goyder’s Line Pasture Trials at Quorn – doing it within the law and with the tools at hand.
2-3 Bus to Port Augusta Site
3-4 Bird Lake /Ash Dam Restoration and Succession – tackling a challenge and restoring function.
4-6 Bus return to Burra.
